Junior Hockey 3 of 4

3. Training

Training is open to junior members of the club (along with non members for a limited time). Its a fun way to get to know people, get fit and improve your hockey skills. Training is pitched at a suitable level for all players to be challenged whilst also having fun.

Training for the 2023/2024 season starts from beginning September and will run through until July (training doesn't run through the summer holidays).

It is run by fully DBS check coaches and is suitable for young people aged between 5-15. Generally players will training within their age group (age 5-10 or age 11-15) but coaches may recommend training in different sections to ensure the player is suitably challenged.
Some juniors will move up to senior training when they start to play in senior teams but may also attend junior training if they wish.

Training is included with Junior club membership (£42/ yr). If your child does not wish to join then you may attend training for £5 a session. First session is free.

What kit do you need?

  • Standard PE kit with layers for winter
  • Sturdy trainers
  • A hockey stick. We have plenty you can borrow but a good starter stick can be bought from major sports shops for under £20. The top of the stick should reach the child’s waist height.
  • Shin pads. Football shin pads are fine.
  • Gum shield (highly recommended but not essential). One that you mould at home is fine.

If you have any questions please contact Andy Barnett (Junior Development Officer) or Charlotte May-Wymer (Junior Coach) on our main contact page.
